Midway University remains test optional for admission, holds tuition steady

MIDWAY, Ky. — Midway University is remaining test-optional for admission through the 2023-2024 academic year and is holding tuition rates steady for the fourth year.

This means that students need not take a standardized test, such as the ACT or SAT, to be considered for admission to the university. Entrance or checkpoint exams may still be required for majors requiring programmatic admissions, such as nursing or education.

“Test optional provides more flexibility for our incoming students,” said Dr. Carrie Christensen, interim vice president for Academic Affairs. “By allowing test-optional admission, our admissions team looks at the students’ full academic records to make admissions decisions and scholarship awards.”

Earlier this year the Midway University Board of Trustees also announced that it would hold tuition rates for the 2022-2023 academic year, which marks the fourth year in a row without a tuition increase.

“We are committed now, more than ever, to remaining one of the most affordable private universities in Kentucky,” said Dr. John P. Marsden, president of Midway University.

“We have worked tirelessly to keep our expenses down and run a fiscally-sound institution,” Marsden said. “We have done this by balancing operating budgets, increasing enrollment and net revenue, and initiating all our new construction and renovation projects without incurring new debt or passing along the cost to students through tuition increases.”

Recent campus improvements include renovations to multiple residence halls, new athletic facilities, upgrades to computer labs and technology, a new barn and equine education center, and construction of the new Hunter Field House, which includes an auxiliary gym, weight room, and elevated walking track. A new turf field and track are currently in the pre-development phase as well.

In comparing tuition rates across the private institutions in Kentucky, Midway is the most affordable institution in Central Kentucky (in both the Lexington and Louisville areas) for traditional undergraduate programs, a news release from the school states. Looking at evening and online undergraduate and graduate programs, Midway University also remains a leader in offering the most affordable tuition rates.

Midway believes its master of education and master of science in nursing programs are the most affordable in the state, and Midway’s MBA program is the most affordable in the Central Kentucky region.
