PADUCAH, Ky. — Mercy Health Kentucky announces that it will build a new, $12.5 million, 19,000 square foot comprehensive, full-service cancer center designed specifically to address the growing need for compassionate, patient-centered, high quality cancer care services in Western Kentucky. Mercy Health will break ground on the center on Tuesday, December 13.
“Despite many advances in prevention, diagnosis and treatment, Western Kentucky continues to experience a high incidence rate of cancer and of behaviors that lead to cancers,” said Mercy Health – Kentucky President Michael Yungmann. “This new, modern and efficient space for our cancer patients, providers and care team will allow us to care comfortably for the increasing number of patients we are treating and expand the cancer care services available to our community.”
Mercy Health will provide full medical oncology and all associated and related cancer center services from the new cancer center.
“We are thoughtfully designing and building a cancer center with our patients, their families and our caregivers in mind. Once the center is complete, it will be a warm and welcoming location where our patients receive care from a team focused on building a connection with them,” said Mercy Health – Lourdes Hospital Oncology Service Line Director John Montville.
“We will also expand the cancer care services we provide in this new location by adding providers, extra infusion space and dedicated pharmacy and lab services, fulling our mission to make healthcare more accessible,” added Montville. “By placing all of our cancer services in one location and making them easy to find within the building, we aim to ease the burden of treatment for our patients and their loved ones.”
Mercy Health will locate the center in the open space in between Lourdes Hospital and the Paducah Medical Pavilion on Lone Oak Road. It will centralize oncology services on the Lourdes Hospital campus and house:
- A medical practice with space for three medical oncologists/hematologists and three advanced practice providers working from 21 exam rooms and one procedure room
- Infusion center with 22 infusion bays with flexible configurations
- An oncology pharmacy and laboratory
- Community resource room
- Prayer and meditation room
- Geothermal system with energy sustainability, the first in a Bon Secours Mercy Health facility
- Space for all integrative and ancillary cancer services, such as oncology nurse navigation, oncology social workers, oncology financial counselors and many other supportive services
Mercy Health anticipates that construction will be complete by the second quarter of 2024. The project architect is Champlin Architecture and Ray Black & Son is the construction firm.
