Kentucky AGC Self Insurers’ Fund opens first headquarters

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky Associated General Contractors Self Insurers’ Fund, one of the largest workers’ compensation insurance providers in Kentucky, has officially moved into its first physical headquarters, located at the ShelbyHurst campus, while also announcing the creation of Louisville-based jobs, as the company brings all operations in-house for the first time.

“Today is a special day for us as we begin a new era for The Fund and our longstanding membership base. We are thankful to everyone who helped make this happen,” said Stephen Lewis, CEO of Kentucky Associated General Contractors Self Insurers’ Fund. “Since 1979, the Fund has grown remarkably. We continue to add members through trade association memberships every year, and with this beautiful new office and our 14 recent new job hires, we will be even better equipped to help protect contractors and their employees across Kentucky.”

In business for over 40 years, the Kentucky AGC Self Insurers’ Fund provides insurance coverage to members of its affiliated trade organizations, protecting contractors and their employees in the instance of an accident or injury. Since its inception, the organization has returned more than $240 million in dividend checks to Fund members and invested more than $1.4 million in the local economy last year.

To commemorate the milestone achievement in the Fund’s history, Greater Louisville Inc. and the Department of Economic Development held a ribbon-cutting on Monday, January 30, at the new office to celebrate this significant investment in the Louisville community.

“GLI is honored to support the Kentucky AGC Self Insurers’ Fund and acknowledge this milestone in Greater Louisville,” said Sarah Davasher-Wisdom, CEO of Greater Louisville Inc. “We appreciate their investment in and continued support of our region. I am confident their new Jefferson County headquarters will lead to continued growth and more opportunities in Greater Louisville.”

Representatives with the Department of Economic Development were also on hand to present a proclamation on behalf of Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg – one of his first proclamations in Louisville since officially taking office on January 2.

“Louisville is a great city for businesses of all sizes to grow, with access to a talented workforce, a competitive cost of doing business, and prime Class A office space,” said Mayor Craig Greenberg. “We are happy to congratulate the Kentucky AGC Self Insurers’ Fund team on their first-ever physical headquarters and celebrate this milestone in their organization’s history.”

While the Kentucky AGC Self Insurers’ Fund has been in operation since 1979, a third-party administrator handled most of the operations until 2022, when the organization hired Lewis as its first CEO and brought operations in-house. Since then, Lewis, an industry executive with more than 20 years of experience, has hired 14 additional team members. More hires are expected for early 2023 as part of the company’s move to its permanent office building. These, along with other investments, will maximize the Fund’s ability to provide unparalleled service for workers’ compensation coverage to the construction industry.
