UK College of Communication and Information announces 2022-2023 Outstanding Alumnus Award Winner

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky (UK) College of Communication and Information (CI) honor one Alumnus each year who has demonstrated career success and professional accomplishments and service to their community, UK, and CI. The 2022-2023 Outstanding Alumnus of the Year Award goes to Nancy Wiser, APR, Fellow PRSA. Wiser is a Kentucky native who has never met a stranger. After graduating from UK with a Master of Arts in Communication in 1989, she became one of Kentucky’s most respected marketing and public relations professionals and a well-known businesswoman. In 2000, Wiser co-founded Wiser Hemlepp & Associates and, in 2011, established Wiser Strategies, a marketing and creative services firm, where she still resides as President. Her agency is located in the heart of downtown Lexington and works with clients across many industries. Throughout her career, Wiser has changed the trajectory for many clients. Through her strategic communication and creative services work, her team helps companies achieve more through better communication. This award is decided each year by a committee of CI alumni. Wiser was presented with this award on Friday, April 14, at the CI Student Awards Ceremony on UK’s campus. “We are proud to present Nancy with the Outstanding Alumnus of the Year award, especially in front of our CI students,” said Jennifer Greer, Dean of UK CI. “This award, and Nancy in particular, shows the students what they can accomplish and encourages them to dream big.” Honors Wiser has received include the Downtown Lexington Partnership Rose Lucas Perfect Partner Award, the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) Corporate Partner of the Year award, Who’s Who in Public Relations, the Lane Report Women of Worthy Note Feature 2020, and she was the youngest person to be installed into the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Thoroughbred Chapter. Along with her long list of professional accolades, Wiser is a Wildcat and Lexingtonian at heart. Anytime she has the opportunity to give back to the University, College, and Lexington Community, she enthusiastically jumps on it. Wiser is a member of the Central Bank Center Board of Directors, where she serves on multiple committees with oversight of Rupp Arena, Triangle Park and the Opera House. She served eight years, including two as the chair of the Blue Grass Airport Board of Directors. As a decades-long member of the Lexington Forum, she served as president. As a creative firm, Wiser Strategies does a few things differently. When Wiser and her team receive good news, they celebrate with… bubbles! The team brought bubbles with them to the awards ceremony and passed them out to the students, showcasing that all victories deserve to be celebrated.
