The Fayette Education Foundation announces new board members; executive committee

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Fayette Education Foundation, which supports educational excellence in Fayette County Public Schools by promoting equity for all students, announced its board of directors and executive committee for the new fiscal year, which began July 1, 2023.

The Executive Committee is as follows:

  • Chair: Latarika Young, Senior Manager, Quality and Compliance, Lexmark
  • Vice Chair/Chair-Elect: Abdul Muhammad, Senior Vice President, Kentucky Southern Indiana Regional Mortgage Manager, WesBanco
  • Past Chair: Dr. Rodney Jackson, Owner/Dentist, Pediatric Dentistry of Hamburg
  • Treasurer: Lauren Lovely, Personal Trust Officer, Wealth Management, Central Bank & Trust Co.
  • At Large: Deidra Dennie, Vice President at Transylvania University
  • At Large: Kaelyn Query, Owner/Founder, Lexington Event Company

The Fayette County Schools Superintendent, Dr. Demetrus Liggins, is an ex-officio member of the Foundation’s board of directors.

Eight new community members have joined the Board of Directors for a two-year term, including two new high school students

  • Michael Baer, President and Co-Owner, Fusioncorp
  • Jamison Craig, Senior, Tates Creek High School
  • Deidra Dennie, Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Transylvania University
  • Andre Fomby, Market IT Director, CHI Saint Joseph Health
  • Denise Gray, 6th District Councilmember, LFCUG
  • Kim Sweazy, External Affairs/Corporate Communications Senior Analyst, Toyota North America
  • Jordan Woods, Junior, Lafayette High School
  • Serenity Wright, Associate Director, Social Innovation, University of Kentucky

 Those new members join the following directors, listed below, along with the executive committee to round out the 2023-24 Board of Directors

  • Melissa Bacon, owner, Baconsulting
  • Penny Christian, community volunteer
  • Janet Luo, Claim Consultant, CNA Insurance
  • Kim Lyon, retired, Fayette County Public Schools
  • Kim Parker-Brown, Professor in Teacher Education, Georgetown College
  • Kaelyn Query, Owner/Founder, Lexington Event Company
  • Drew Rodriguez, Student, University of Kentucky
  • Michele Sparks, Senior Director, Corporate Communications, Valvoline
  • Alan Stein, retired, LM Communications
  • Abby Vaughn, Business Development Director, American Trust
  • Mary Ann Vimont, Associate Professor, College of Education, University of Kentucky

The Foundation operates independently of the Fayette County Public Schools yet cultivates innovations to benefit students and staff and enhance the school district’s mission. The Foundation does not serve in an advisory capacity to the school district nor its board. Therefore, it does not influence school district policies, programs or operations.
