SOMERSET, Ky. — No, you’re not dreaming. The colors, the adventures, the sounds, the amenities, the flavors — they’re all real, and you can find them on Lake Cumberland. That is the message the Somerset-Pulaski County Convention and Visitors Bureau will deliver to thousands of potential visitors as boat show season kicks off today, Jan. 19, in Cincinnati, and they’ll have two new ways to deliver it — through a redesigned website and visitor’s guide.
Both deliver rich, vibrant images of The Capital of Lake Cumberland as they showcase everything Somerset and Pulaski County have to offer, showing visitors they can have the five-star vacation they dream about right here in southeastern Kentucky. From boating, fishing and watersports to live music, bourbon and southern cuisine, Executive Director Michelle Allen wants visitors to understand they’re living “real life, unsalted” when they visit this thriving lake community.
“We see it time and time again, when someone visits Lake Cumberland for the first time, they can’t believe the incredible experience they are having,” Allen said. “Our community becomes their vacation home, a place they return year after year. We want more people to experience what we get to experience every day — the beauty, the hospitality, the culture. We want them to see they don’t have to go to the ocean to have an amazing adventure. They can come right here, and live the unsalted life on Lake Cumberland.”
More people are choosing to experience the unsalted life, as evident by increases in tourism spending in Pulaski County year over year. In 2022, this community broke another record with $144.52 million in tourism spending — a 5% increase over the previous year.
Both the new website and visitor’s guide lean into Somerset and Pulaski County’s visual beauty as they share the numerous experiences visitors can have on and off the water. The website offers a robust calendar of events plus full listings of restaurants, nightlife, shopping, entertainment and outdoor adventure opportunities. It also offers a complete listing of accommodations, from hotels to camping to vacation rentals, allowing the user to search rentals by bedroom size.
The visitor’s guide connects readers to those complete listings online through QR codes, while giving overviews of the many things to do and see in Somerset-Pulaski County. It also includes a full lake map, highlighting marinas and recreational areas across Lake Cumberland’s 101 miles, as well as an insert dedicated to downtown Somerset that lists its shopping, entertainment and recreational opportunities.
“I am so excited to share our website and visitor’s guide with the people we will meet as we attend boat shows in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky in the next two months,” Allen said. “Whatever you want to know about Lake Cumberland, ask us. We love talking about our community because we know you’re going to love it like we do. Our new brand, website and visitor’s guide are the perfect complement to our enthusiasm about Somerset and Pulaski County.”
