The (Ashland) Independent reports that 125 employees have been furloughed indefinitely from Progress Rail Services Corp.’s Raceland Heavy Repair Shop, which provides repair work for CXS Transportation. According to information released by CXS, improvements in freight car utilization, a move toward more shipper-owned cars and new car purchases and leases have affected the number of rail cars needing heavy rebuilds, and CSX does not expect additional heavy rebuilds to be needed in the near future.
