Five Keeneland Sales graduates entered in Preakness this weekend

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 14, 2015) – Keeneland sales graduates Danzig Moon, Dortmund, Firing Line, Mr. Z and Tale of Verve are among the eight horses entered in the 140th running of the $1.5 million Xpressbet.com Preakness (G1) on Saturday at Pimlico.

Approximate post time for the 1 3/16-mile race for 3-year-olds is 6:18 p.m.

Keeneland has sold 21 Preakness (G1) winners, including the four consecutive winners from 2010-2013: Lookin At Lucky, Shackleford, I’ll Have Another and Oxbow. Keeneland sales graduates have exceled in other Triple Crown races with 19 Kentucky Derby (G1) winners and 18 Belmont (G1) winners.

The Keeneland sales graduates entered in the 2015 Preakness are:

Danzig Moon (Malibu Moon-Leaveminthedust) – Four Star Sales, agent for breeder William D. Graham, consigned the colt to Keeneland’s 2013 September Yearling Sale, where Mark Casse, agent, purchased him for $160,000. Casse trains Danzig Moon, fifth in the Kentucky Derby, for John C. Oxley.

Dortmund (Big Brown-Our Josephina) – Third in the Kentucky Derby, Dortmund was offered at Keeneland’s 2012 November Breeding Stock Sale by consignor Bona Terra Stud. Emilie Gerlinde Fojan bred the colt, winner of the Santa Anita Derby (G1) and Los Alamitos Futurity (G1). Bob Baffert trains him for Kaleem Shah.

Firing Line (Line of David-Sister Girl Blues) – Arnold Zetcher’s Firing Line was second in the Kentucky Derby. In 2012, Paramount Sales, agent, consigned the colt to the November Sale, where he was purchased by GMEN Racing for $65,000. In 2014, Eddie Woods, agent, consigned Firing Line to Keeneland’s April Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale, and he sold to Ben McElroy, agent, for $240,000. Clearsky Farms bred Firing Line, the Sunland Derby (G3) winner trained by Simon Callaghan.

Mr. Z (Malibu Moon-Stormy Bear) – Maynard Farm, agent for breeder Richard D. Maynard, offered the colt at the 2013 September Sale. D. Wayne Lukas trains Mr. Z for Calumet Farm.

Tale of Verve (Tale of Ekati-Verve) – Wavertree Stables, agent, consigned the colt to the 2014 April Sale, where he was sold to Six Friends Syndicate for $440,000. Dallas Stewart trains Tale of Verve for breeder Charles E. Fipke.
