KY FAME recruiting students at April 25 event

Kyndle FAME (Kentucky Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education) will host a Student Recruitment Event 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 25 at Henderson Community College. All prospective student participants, family, and interested community members are invited to attend.

Industry representatives from the Kyndle FAME Chapter will be on hand to discuss Advanced Manufacturing career opportunities—and other program participation benefits. HCC staff and faculty will be available to assist and answer questions related to the Kyndle FAME program application, college enrollment requirements and financial aid.

The Kyndle FAME program is an opportunity to earn an Associate’s degree in five semesters, work at a sponsoring company while you learn, and complete the program with little to no debt.

The FAME model is based on the nationally noted Toyota Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) program. Interested Kyndle FAME applicants must be high school graduates (or equivalent) and be willing to participate in the program’s 40 hour per week, apprenticeship-style format. If selected, students will attend college two days a week while working three days a week at the sponsoring company. In as few as 18 months (5 semesters), participants can earn an Associate in Applied Science degree. Plus, with the practical skills gained during the paid work experience, individuals may get a full-time job with the sponsoring company. Or, they may decide to further their technical education to obtain a bachelor’s degree.

The Kyndle FAME program blends classroom instruction with onsite work experience at the manufacturing facility of a sponsoring company. Classes will be offered at Henderson Community College’s Henderson Campus. Along with the college admission application, company personnel may review and select potential students on the following criteria:

  • Academic Success: measured through grades and class rank.
  • Math Capability: measured through test scores such as ACT, KYOTE, etc.
  • Drug Free: commitment to remaining absolutely drug-free.

Current employer members of the Kyndle FAME Chapter include:  Air Hydro Power, Audubon Metals, Big Rivers Electric Corp., Cresline Plastic Pipe, Gibbs Die Casting, Hydro Aluminum, International Paper, River View Coal and Vibracoustic.
