New president named for Somerset Community College

VERSAILLES, Ky. (April 27, 2018)—Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) President Jay K. Box announced today the appointment of Dr. Carey W. Castle as president of Somerset Community College.

Castle serves as vice president for Academic and Student Affairs at Northland Community and Technical College in Thief River Falls and East Grand Forks, Minnesota. Additionally, he served in leadership and teaching positions at Greenville Technical College in South Carolina and with the U.S. Air Force.

“Dr. Castle’s background is a terrific fit for SCC,” Box said. “His experience in academic and student affairs is very important to the future of the college. We welcome him to the Kentucky Community and Technical College System of 16 colleges.”

Castle earned an Ed.D in higher education leadership from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He earned a master’s degree in public administration from Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia, and two associate degrees from Community College of the Air Force at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama.

“It is with great pleasure that the board selected Dr. Castle as the next president of SCC,” Board Chair Charlene Harris said.  “He brings a true passion for student success, and we are confident he will continue the great legacy established by Dr. Jo Marshall.”

Castle will begin his duties as SCC president July 1.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to serve as the next president of Somerset Community College,” Castle said. “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I’m extremely grateful to work with the students, faculty and staff as well as the community.”
