FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 4, 2018)—The Energy and Environment Cabinet (EEC) today announced $309,946 in grant funding awards for landscaping, walking trails and pour-in-place surfacing projects that utilize recycled waste tires.
The grants are from the Waste Tire Trust Fund, established by the 1998 Kentucky General Assembly to receive a $1 fee from each retail sale of a new tire in the state. The fund helps manage the approximately 5 million scrap tires generated in Kentucky each year and promotes the development of markets for recycled tire products.
Recipients, along with grant amounts, are as follows:
Allen County
- Allen County Fiscal Court – Landscaping at the Allen County Judicial Center $5,110
Daviess County
- Audubon Area Community Services/Head Start Program – Seven Hills Head Start/Preschool – ADA Pour-in-Place Playground Surfacing $38,016
- Owensboro Public Schools, Sutton Elementary School – Pour-in-Place Playground $28,890
Fayette County
- University of Kentucky, The Arboretum and The Ben F. Roach Cancer Care Building, Crumb Rubber Path and Matted Tree Wells $9,800
Grant County

Green County
