FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 8, 2018) — The families of eight Kentucky students have won $1,000 college savings accounts with the Kentucky Education Savings Plan Trust (KESPT) after participating in the 2018 KESPT Dream Out Loud Challenge. Each winner’s school also will receive $500. KESPT is Kentucky’s official 529 college savings plan.
The Dream Out Loud Challenge invited students from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade to submit an original poem, drawing, video or essay answering the question, “How will I change the world after college?” Nearly 500 children from across the state participated.
“Saving for college is important to consider while children are young and families have plenty of time to save,” said David Lawhorn, KESPT program manager. “Not only does Dream Out Loud foster those important conversations, but it encourages Kentucky students to consider the ways a college education can help them pursue successful careers.”
Children who entered the contest shared their ideas about how to change the world as meteorologists, astronauts, firefighter paramedics, teachers and more. The 2018 Dream Out Loud Challenge winners are:

- Cole Bishop, Grade 1, Veterans Park Elementary, Lexington, Ky.
- Kenadie Hughes, Grade 2, Community Christian Academy, Paducah, Ky.
- Luke Nobers, Grade 3, Bowen Elementary, Louisville, Ky.
- Gauge Clark, Grade 3, Hanson Elementary, Madisonville, Ky.
- Abbi Borders, Grade 6, Boyd County Middle School, Catlettsburg, Ky.
- Luke Penrose, Grade 6, Oakland Elementary, Bowling Green, Ky.
A panel of Kentucky business executives and education professionals served as judges. Winning submissions will be displayed at kysaves.com.
