The schedule for Memorial Day ceremonies at state veterans cemeteries

FRANKFORT, Ky (May 22, 2018) — Kentucky’s five state veterans cemeteries will hold ceremonies this Memorial Day holiday honoring those who have died for our country.

Kentucky’s newest veterans cemetery, Kentucky Veterans Cemetery South East in Hyden, will hold its Memorial Day Ceremony at 10 a.m. EST on Monday, May 28. It will feature the “Soldiers of the Clouds” ceremony performed by the Perry County Central High School Junior ROTC. They will also post the colors and place flags on the graves.

Command Sergeant Major David Munden of the Kentucky National Guard will be the guest speaker at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown. The Memorial Day Ceremony there begins at 11 a.m. EST on May 28 and will feature wreath-laying by the families of veterans interred there. Refreshments provided by the Williamstown Women’s Club.

VFW Post 1913 is sponsoring the Memorial Day Ceremony at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West and the guest speaker will be VFW State Commander Karle Johnson. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. CST on May 28 and will be followed by lunch at VFW Post 1913.

Fort Knox is partnering with Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff on the Memorial Day Ceremony at 11:30 a.m. EST May 28. The guest speaker is Brigadier General John R. Evans Jr., Commanding General of the Cadet Command and Fort Knox. The 100th U.S. Army Band will play Taps, America the Beautiful and the Armed Forces Medley.

Ret. Sergeant First Class  Terry Barker will be the guest speaker at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. EST on May 28. East Carter JROTC will post and retire the colors. Refreshments provided by the Ladies Auxiliary AMVETS Post 95.
