McDonald’s, area health departments work to increase immunization awareness

Families encouraged to ‘Immunize for Healthy Lives’ before returning to the classroom

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (June 6, 2018) — Local McDonald’s owner/operators throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana are teaming up with local health departments to increase immunization awareness and encourage families throughout the state to “Immunize for Healthy Lives.” The Immunize for Healthy Lives program is an annual program aimed to educate the community on the importance of immunization in young children before they head back to school.

All children who visit their local health department this summer to be immunized will receive a coupon to redeem “One FREE Cone or Apple Slices” at any of the more than 160 participating McDonald’s Bluegrass Operators’s Association restaurant locations (Louisville, Lexington, Southern Indiana and surrounding counties).

“McDonald’s Bluegrass Operator’s Association and each of our local owner/operators are committed to the well-being of children and families,” McDonald’s Owner/Operator and President of the Bluegrass Operator’s Association George Saliba said. “By working with our local health departments, we seek to educate parents on the importance of timely immunizations so they can keep children healthy.”

Recommended immunization schedules are designed to protect infants and children early in life, when they are most vulnerable, before they are exposed to potentially life-threatening diseases like Chickenpox, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Flu, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Polio and Tetanus.

By age two, most children can be protected from more than 14 preventable diseases. Since improvements are constantly being made to the immunization schedule, it is recommended that parents check with their pediatrician or local health department regularly.
