Courier-Journal: Kentucky pension reform law struck down by judge as unconstitutional

FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 20, 2018) – Franklin Circuit Court on Wednesday struck down Kentucky’s new pension law.

Franklin Circuit Judge Phillip Shepherd ruled that the expedited process to pass the law by the General Assembly was unconstitutional, and the new law is void.

“Today’s decision is a win for open, honest government, ruling that the Kentucky General Assembly violated the Constitution when it turned an 11-page sewer bill into a 291-page pension bill,” Attorney General Andy Beshear said on Twitter.

The court’s order and all the filings in the case can be found here.
