VERSAILLES, Ky. (July 12, 2018) — The King’s Daughters and Sons Foundation of Kentucky, Inc., has donated $50,000 to endow a scholarship program for the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.
Scholarships will be awarded to full-time, second-year students enrolled in a program that results in a credential that contributes to workforce development in high-demand fields and/or transfer to a baccalaureate degree program in Kentucky.
“We are extremely grateful to The King’s Daughters and Sons Foundation for their generous donation,” said KCTCS President Jay K. Box. “The majority of our students are in need of financial aid, so there is no shortage of students who could benefit from this new scholarship.”
The award will be based on financial need as documented in a student’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA). The scholarship may be renewed for a third semester provided the student is making satisfactory progress, earning a GPA of at least 2.0 and the third semester is necessary to complete the credential(s).
The King’s Daughters and Sons Foundation has made funding scholarships a priority over the years and has funded scholarships at two KCTCS colleges in the past. The foundation board decided an endowment to KCTCS would ultimately help more students.
“Our board feels very strongly that we are in a period marked by a severe trained labor shortage that will only get worse,” said Mark E. Craft, CPA, treasurer of the foundation board. “We wanted to help students who do not have the financial resources, the inclination or the academic standing to attend a four-year college. We focused this endowment on students who are attending college to get training that leads to some type of certification.”
