EKU Risk Management and Insurance Program to co-host Women’s Leadership Day

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University Risk Management and Insurance program and Kentucky-based organized Women Leaders in Insurance and Financial Services will co-host Women’s Leadership Day on Tuesday, Sept. 18.

The event will be held 2-6 p.m. in the Dr. Janna P. Vice Atrium and Rogow Auditorium in the Business and Technology Center.

“The goal of the meeting is to give our female students the opportunity to connect with successful women in Kentucky who are happy to become their mentors,” said Dr. Burke Christensen, a professor in the department of accounting, finance, and information systems. “When I was a young man, there were plenty of successful men for me to emulate and who could help me succeed. This program is intended to give our female students the chance to make those same connections.”

The free event will feature vendors, networking opportunities with finance and insurance professionals, keynote speaker Maureen Gallagher, and a panel of women insurance professionals.

Gallagher is a nationally renowned insurance professional, currently serving as Michigan managing director and national real estate and worker’s comp brands leader at AssuredPartners. Her specialties include insurance placement, risk management and consulting. Recently, she was named “Best and Brightest” and one of “Detroit’s Most Influential Women” by Crain’s Detroit Business, and a “Power Broker” by Risk and Insurance.

Gallagher is also dedicated to educating students about the field of insurance. In 2003, she founded Insurance Partners Academy, where she still serves as director. She has created several insurance certification programs and earned many awards for leadership and education. Most notably, she was awarded Woman of the Year by Women’s Leaders in Insurance and Finance, and given the key to the city of Louisville. Gallagher will address event attendees at 3 p.m. in Rogow Auditorium.

The panel discussion will begin at 4:20 p.m. and feature insurance professionals Kim Kammerdiener, region manager (Kentucky/Tennessee) for risk control services with Liberty Mutual Insurance; Kimberley Wilson, state sales manager (Kentucky/Tennessee) with West Bend Mutual Insurance Company; Lindsey Warren, underwriter at Risk Placement Services Inc.; and Lori Linville Cobb, manager at Linville Insurance Agency.

All business majors are welcome and must pre-register by Sept. 10 at insurance.eku.edu.
