FRANKFORT, Ky. — William Woods, a Republican from Corinth, filed his paperwork on Monday to enter the 2019 governor’s race.
Woods has worked as an account manager in contract security and ran as a Republican for state House unsuccessfully against former state Rep. Addia Wuchner in 2012. Woods has chosen Justin Miller, a former teacher from Florence, as his running mate.
On his campaign website, Woods’ campaign priorities include public education, legalization of casino gaming to fund pensions and trade schools and marijuana saying “100 percent of the funds should go to funding armed school security in the commonwealth,” state pension reforms, the 2nd amendment and right to life.
Woods is the second Republican to file for the race, along with GOP state Rep. Robert Goforth who announced last week. Gov. Matt Bevin has announced his intention to run for re-election and file his paperwork before the Jan. 29 filing deadline.
Democrats are beginning to see a crowded primary with Attorney General Andy Beshear, House Minority Leader Rocky Adkins and former state auditor Adam Edelen all officially in the race.
