Home and Garden Tour returns May 19 to Lexington’s oldest neighborhood

15 homes in Lexington’s Northside Neighborhood to open doors

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Northside Neighborhood Association Home and Garden Tour returns Sunday, May 19, from 12-5 p.m.

Tour a variety of homes designed in a range of architectural styles in one of Lexington’s oldest, most vibrant and most diverse neighborhood. The Northside Neighborhood Association is Lexington’s oldest. In 2011, the Association celebrated 50 years of dedication to the preservation of the Northside’s rich cultural heritage and the quality of life of its eclectic residents. The result is a twenty first century Northside, where 200 years of American history, passionately maintained, is energized by hip urban renewal.

Art galleries, friendly taverns, sumptuous restaurants, top rated inns, a new microbrewery, a lively music scene and planned contemporary development blend seamlessly with tradition in the Northside. At the center of it all is Transylvania University, where a first class modern liberal arts education is served up on a campus that holds the ghosts of Henry Clay, Jefferson Davis, John C. Breckenridge, Stephen Austin and Cassius M. Clay. That’s the Northside: A place where History and Community Meet.

This is a self-guided walking tour, so wear comfortable shoes. Guests are responsible for their own transportation between sites but it is highly recommend that you leave your car parked and walk or bike the tour. Sprocket Jockeys will have two pedicabs at the event to help shuttle guests between sites. This service is free to tour guests but pedalers always appreciate tips. Also consider doing the tour with your bike; the map in the program guide will show a route for a bike tour.

Guests can select where to start, which sites to visit and in which order. All homes and gardens will be open at noon and close at 5pm.
