VOICES of Kentuckiana announces new artistic and managing director for 2019-20 season

Amanda Boyd

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — VOICES of Kentuckiana’s Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Amanda Boyd as its new artistic and managing director effective Aug. 1. Boyd holds a Doctor of Music in Voice Performance and Vocal Pedagogy from Florida State University and currently serves on the voice faculty at the University of Louisville. She succeeds Jeff Buhrman, who retired in 2019 after leading the chorus for five years.

“I am honored to join VOICES of Kentuckiana for the 26th season,” said Boyd. “This organization has a deep history — 25 years — of serving the community through its mission, its outreach, and its music. As I look ahead to the next 25 years, it is my hope that VOICES will expand its message of hope, welcome, and acceptance to our LGBTQ+ citizens while we build connections between outcasts and allies through our music and service.”

VOICES is currently accepting new singers to the chorus for the Fall and Spring semesters. Singers rehearse every Sunday from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Central Presbyterian Church in Louisville with one Saturday retreat during each concert period. Although everyone is welcome to sing, a vocal placement is required and can be scheduled by emailing [email protected].

VOICES of Kentuckiana’s concert season returns as part of The Kentucky Center presents series at the Bomhard Theatre on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019, at 5 p.m. with this year’s holiday concert A Classic Christmas. The concert will celebrate the classics that we all love as well as the traditions that make the holidays so meaningful. Tickets for the concert will go on sale Aug. 23, 2019, and will be $20 for adults and $15 for students and seniors.

VOICES spring concert will also be presented at The Kentucky Center (501 W Main Street) in the Bomhard Theatre on Sunday, April 5, 2020, at 5:00 p.m. The concert, whose title will be revealed at a later date, will go on sale Dec. 8, 2019. Artistic Director, Amanda Boyd shared this about her plans, “While the concert planning is still in the early stages, the April concert program will focus on songs of strength, hope, and empowerment.”

Closing out the season will be the annual joint Broadway cabaret with VOICES of Kentuckiana and Pandora Productions at PLAY Louisville (1101 E Washington St, Louisville, Ky. 40206) on Saturday, June 6, 2020.
