Southeastern Kentucky Rehabilitation Industries (SEKRI) is expanding operations at its Cumberland facility in Harlan County to increase production of fire-retardant Army combat shirts. SEKRI partnered with Southeast Kentucky Economic Development Corp. (SKED) to apply for a $600,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to purchase inventory and add 40 new employees to the 104-member workforce over the next two years. SEKRI is a nonprofit agency that functions with the primary purpose of providing employment opportunities for disabled people. The agency currently provides jobs for 650 people, 75 percent of whom are severely disabled.
