Brenntag Mid-South, of provider of chemical distribution, logistics and custom chemical services, is investing $1.6 million to expand its Henderson complex. The expansion involves adding 27,000 s.f. to the existing facility and will enable the company to better handle existing activity as well as planned future growth. The expansion will also allow the company to add additional jobs to its existing workforce, which currently numbers more than 200. Brenntag has been a part of the Henderson community since the facility’s inception more than 60 years ago as PB&S Chemical. Today, the complex includes not only chemical blending and distribution, but also serves as Brenntag Mid-South’s corporate headquarters.

The management of Ellis Park Race Course has decided to close the track between November and March but will reopen for simulcast operations on April 1, 2010, and host live racing between July 10 and Sept. 6. The track’s owner, Ron Geary, said he did not expect to apply for live race dates at all in 2010, but the Kentucky Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association agreed to the designation of some one-time, non-recurring funds to create satisfactory purses in 2010, making it possible for Ellis Park to apply for a reduced live meet. The temporary closing will affect 75 employees.
