Submissions for The Galt House Hotel’s 2020 Artist in Residence program closing on Jan. 13

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Galt House Hotel is entering into the second year of its innovative Artist in Residence (AIR) program, and it’s not too late to apply. Applications may be submitted through January 13, 2020, and the search will culminate in the selection of an artist in May 2020. Visual artists from across the country are invited to apply.

In 2018, the Galt House rolled out a new and exciting concept, the only Artist in Residence program at a hotel in the region. The first resident, Gibbs Rounsavall, has not only met but exceeded expectations in marrying two key components of the city of Louisville – art and hospitality – by introducing hotel guests to the artistry that Louisville has to offer.

The 2020 AIR selection committee, comprised of 12 prominent members of Louisville’s arts community, will review samples of submitted work and interview prospective artists before narrowing the pool to four finalists. Finalists will be invited to display their work in the AIR studio in April, and the resident will be selected in May.

The selected resident will receive a working studio in the main corridor of the hotel where the public will view their work as well as observe the artist as they create. Meetings, conventions and weddings at the Galt House will have the option to have the AIR as an element of their gatherings. If the artist wishes, they may sell their work on hotel premises. Visual artists from across the country are invited to apply.

In addition, the Galt House will offer the selected artist a monthly stipend and a food and beverage credit within the hotel. At the close of the nine month-long residency, the artist will gift a legacy piece to the hotel, which will be installed in a public area.
