LOUISVILLE, Ky. — UofL Health – Mary & Elizabeth Hospital has named Melisa Adkins, RN, BSN, MBA, as the facility’s new chief administrative officer.

Adkins has demonstrated herself as a strategic and proactive administrator with an award-winning track record of hospital leadership and exceptional customer service. She has had years of healthcare experience in improving net revenue growth, physician and patient satisfaction, and clinical quality and performance.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity to work with Mary & Elizabeth Hospital and with the outstanding team they have in place,” said Adkins. “I look forward to helping them continue providing first-rate services to their patients, staff and employees.”

Adkins comes to Mary & Elizabeth Hospital from Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion, Ill., where she served as chief executive officer since 2017. Adkins succeeded in implementing all new emergency department, neonatal intensive care unit, and cardiac and step-down monitors at the facility in 2016, while reducing patient wait times from an average of 42 minutes to an average of 25 minutes. She also increased the three-star rating of the facility’s Transitional Care to a four-star rating in just one year’s time.

“We’re very pleased to have Adkins join our team at Mary & Elizabeth,” said Tom Miller, CEO of UofL Health. “She has an outstanding reputation in healthcare, and we know she will bring added value and expertise that will help us continue improving the quality care we can provide to our patients.”
