Kindred Healthcare appoints new chief operating officer

Jason Zachariah

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kindred Healthcare today announced the appointment of Jason Zachariah as chief operating officer. Zachariah will continue to serve as president of Kindred Rehabilitation Services. Pete Kalmey, executive vice president and president of Kindred’s Hospital Division, will continue to report to Benjamin A. Breier, Kindred’s president and chief executive officer. Kalmey has demonstrated years of exceptional leadership in the Hospital Division and will continue to play a critical role in the executive leadership at Kindred Healthcare.

Zachariah joined Kindred in 2006 and held various roles in the Hospital Division before being named chief operating officer of Kindred Hospital Rehabilitation Services in July 2013. Since his appointment as president of KRS in August 2016, Zachariah has overseen the strategic growth of the KRS business and the creation of a best-in-class joint venture model that has produced a robust development pipeline. He has also played a key role in driving enterprise-wide initiatives related to culture, diversity, inclusion and employee engagement.

“Jason has proven himself to be an outstanding leader whose business acumen and operational expertise are complemented by his genuine passion for the well-being of our patients and team members,” Mr. Breier said. “As President of KRS, Jason has driven a culture of patient advocacy, quality outcomes, engagement and operational efficiency. His operational expertise, deep knowledge of our business and enthusiasm make him the ideal person to assume the COO role. I am confident he will help Kindred achieve new heights and continue to deliver on our mission.”

“I am honored to be appointed COO and look forward to working with Ben, the leadership team and all of my colleagues to build on the Company’s strong foundation,” Mr. Zachariah said. “Kindred has a powerful platform as one of the largest specialty hospital and rehabilitation providers in the country. By extending our legacy of innovation, leveraging strategic partnerships and continuing to place our trust in our dedicated, talented team members, I know we will achieve even greater success.”
