ELKHORN CITY, Ky. — Crews are on the scene of a fiery train derailment in Pike County.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the train derailed Thursday morning outside Elkhorn City, just across the river from US 460 in the Ratliff Bottom area of Pike County.

According to CSX, the train hit a rockslide causing two engines and multiple cars to derail into the Big Sandy River, near Pond Creek Road.

Emergency Response team members are evaluating the impact, sampling water and working with the local water systems to ensure a safe supply of drinking water is maintained.
