Local businesses sought as worksites for the Summer Youth Job Training Program

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The 2020 Summer Youth Job Training Program (SYJTP) is seeking local businesses and community-based organizations to serve as worksites for this year’s program.

As part of the Summer Youth Job Training Program, participating employers do not incur direct wage costs. All of the youth workers’ wages and employment-related costs are paid directly by the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government. However, each worksite’s investment in training, supervision and mentorship of youth workers is an invaluable component of the public-private partnership.

New this year, SYJTP will partner with Fayette County Public Schools’ College and Career Readiness Initiative to identify rising 10, 11 and 12th grade students to join the program. Youth workers will work part-time, up to 20 hours per week, and will earn $10.10 per hour. The program runs for six weeks, beginning June 8 through July 17.

Three hundred students are expected to participate in this year’s program. Through SYJTP, youth will gain work experience, develop interpersonal skills, and explore career interests.

Partners for Youth is leading the recruitment effort to attract more local businesses and community-based organizations to serve as worksites. Interested businesses and organizations in Lexington are encouraged to apply on the City’s website. A worksite orientation is scheduled for March 25 at 8:30 a.m. at the Phoenix Building, 101 E. Vine St. The deadline to apply to be a 2020 worksite is Friday, March 13.
