Evolve502 adds staff to grow development, communications efforts

John Guthrie

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Evolve502, a partnership of public and private agencies working together to deliver the supports local students need to reach success, hired two new staff members to grow fundraising, engagement and communications efforts.

Evolve502 is a community-focused organization helping every Jefferson County Public Schools student pursue the dream of a college education through expanding educational opportunities and reducing systemic barriers. A major initiative of the public/private partnership will be providing JCPS graduates scholarships and grants to pursue a two year-college degree or specialized training in fields with shortages of workers.

“We’re excited to grow our team with new staff who bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in non-profit fundraising and education,” said Marland Cole, executive director of Evolve502. “This is a critical time for our organization as we are building a movement to bring positive, transformational change to JCPS students, families and our community.”

John Guthrie, director of development and donor engagement, and Brandy Warren, communications manager, joined Evolve502 in February.

Guthrie, a Louisville native, earned undergraduate degree at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. He then lived and worked in New York City, Muncie, Ind., and Cleveland, Ohio, where he completed his MBA at Case Western Reserve University. In 2005, Guthrie moved back to his hometown and began working at Ashley|Rountree and Associates, a consulting firm working with nonprofit organizations on philanthropy, capital campaigns, volunteer engagement and more. He was recognized as one of Business First’s Forty Under 40 in 2009. In 2015, Guthrie launched Louisville Distilled, a weekly online magazine that covered positive stories about local businesses, organizations and neighborhoods. When the
project finished in 2018, he worked as a consultant for area non-profits. Guthrie and his wife, Elizabeth Guthrie, have two children.

Brandy Warren

Warren worked for 11 years as a communications and marketing coordinator for the University of Louisville. While there, she focused on marketing and communications strategies with an emphasis on student recruitment, retention, student services and campus life. Prior to UofL, she worked as a newspaper reporter for the Courier-Journal and The Anniston (Ala.) Star. She earned her undergraduate degree at Western Kentucky University. She and her husband, Joseph Lord, have two daughters.
