Bourbon Community Hospital welcomes new doctor

PARIS, Ky. — Bourbon Community Hospital today announced that Babatunde Sokan, MD, has joined its staff and will be offering primary care services to patients throughout Bourbon County and the surrounding area. Dr. Sokan brings more than 15 years of clinical experience to Bourbon Community Hospital.

“Dr. Sokan has years of experience in treating a range of acute and chronic conditions, and he is an excellent addition to our hospital team,” said Matt Smith, CEO of Bourbon Community Hospital.  “We are glad Dr. Sokan is coming back to our community. Our citizens now have the opportunity to establish care with him instead of just seeing him in the ER. Dr. Sokan’s expertise will be important as Bourbon Community Hospital strives to meet our region’s evolving healthcare needs and continues to advance our mission of Making Communities Healthier®.”

Dr. Sokan joins Bourbon Community Hospital from CODAC Health and Wellness in Tucson, Arizona, where he was assistant medical director and medical director of Banner Casa Grande Urgent Care. Before practicing in Arizona, he was the ER medical director of our emergency department in 2011 and he has been practicing ER medicine since 2002.

Dr. Sokan graduated from University of Ilorin in Nigeria in 1989. He completed his internship and residency in family practice at AHEC University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Dr. Sokan is board-certified in family medicine and a member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians and American Society of Addiction Medicine.

Dr. Sokan and his wife, professor of gerontology, live in Paris. They have two grown children that are physicians. He enjoys traveling, reading, playing tennis, and watching movies.

Dr. Sokan will begin seeing patients at his office at Bourbon Family Medicine, 8 Linville Drive, Suite A, on March 11. Appointments may be made by calling 859-987-1346.
