KEMI issues statement on coverage for first responders

Jon Stewart, President/CEO

The following is a statement from Jon Stewart, Kentucky Employers’ Mutual Insurance president & CEO:

A published report Thursday morning inaccurately stated that KEMI has denied claims for first responders, and while we have asked for a correction we want to set the record straight here.

KEMI has not denied a single COVID-19 claim.

In fact, to date there have been 105 COVID-19 claims reported by KEMI policyholders who are first responders or medical providers, and we have not denied a single one.

The article also states that KEMI was ordered by Gov. Andy Beshear to grant this extended coverage; this is also false. KEMI was in contact with the governor’s office and proposed extending this coverage because we believed it was the right thing to do.
