The following is a statement from Jon Stewart, Kentucky Employers’ Mutual Insurance president & CEO:
A published report Thursday morning inaccurately stated that KEMI has denied claims for first responders, and while we have asked for a correction we want to set the record straight here.
KEMI has not denied a single COVID-19 claim.
In fact, to date there have been 105 COVID-19 claims reported by KEMI policyholders who are first responders or medical providers, and we have not denied a single one.
The article also states that KEMI was ordered by Gov. Andy Beshear to grant this extended coverage; this is also false. KEMI was in contact with the governor’s office and proposed extending this coverage because we believed it was the right thing to do.
While we are disappointed with the inaccurate reporting, our most important responsibility is to ensure that our policyholders and injured workers are protected. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have questions or concerns about your coverage and benefits.
