WOODFORD COUNTY, Ky. — It’s been 50 years since jockey Diane Crump became the first female to ride in The Kentucky Derby — and this year’s Woodford Reserve $1,000 Mint Julep Cup program celebrates that milestone.
Crump rode Fathom in the 1970 Derby and, although the Thoroughbred finished 15th, Crump rode into history. Crump lives in Virginia and remains involved in the horse industry.
One hundred and twenty-one Silver-Plated Pewter Cups are available for purchase. The silver cups are handcrafted by Louisville jeweler From the Vault, and each is adorned with embellishments representative of the Best of Kentucky. The Silver Cup is available for $1,000.
Twenty-five Gold Cups are available for purchase with this year’s sale. With a design similar to the Silver Cup, these keepsakes are gold-plated and accompanied by a silver Woodford Reserve Sipping Straw. The Gold Cup is available for $2,500.
