3 UofL Health sites offering free COVID-19 testing

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Three UofL Health COVID-19 testing sites will now offer free testing to anyone in the community. Appointments are available seven days a week downtown, in south Louisville and Bullitt County. Scheduling will start Tuesday, Aug. 4, with tests beginning on Thursday, Aug. 6.

“UofL Health is proud to expand our access, in partnership with the commonwealth,” said Dr. Jason Smith, chief medical officer of UofL Health. “When Governor Beshear requested more testing, we knew UofL Health had the expertise, and locations, to meet the demand.”

UofL Health opened the state’s first drive-thru COVID testing site in March and has operated up to six locations. Of the approximately 27,000 tests conducted by UofL Health, more than 1,000 have resulted in positive COVID cases.

Funding from the state is covering the cost of the testing, so it is free to the community, but appointments are required:

Those making an appointment can choose from one of three locations: downtown test site, at the corner of Brook and Liberty; UofL Health — Mary & Elizabeth Hospital; or UofL Health — Medical Center South. Additional sites are under consideration.

Testing is recommended for those showing symptoms, including: fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, headache, body aches, fatigue, loss of taste or smell, and diarrhea. In an emergency – such as severe trouble breathing – go to an emergency department. If you have been exposed to COVID but you have no symptoms, it is not an emergency.

The amount of time it takes to get COVID test results may vary, based on lab capacity.
