Morehead State designated 2019 Tree Campus for 5th straight year

Eagle Lake
Eagle Lake in Morehead.

MOREHEAD, Ky. — For the fifth consecutive year, Morehead State University has been designated as a 2019 Tree Campus by the National Arbor Day Foundation.

The Tree Campus Higher Education designation, formerly called Tree Campus USA, is awarded annually, and recognizes efforts made in the previous year to promote healthy trees and engage students in conservation.

To earn the designation, MSU met the five core standards for an effective campus forest management, including:

  • Establishment of a tree advisory committee.
  • Providing evidence of a campus tree-care plan.
  • Dedicated annual expenditures for its campus tree program.
  • An Arbor Day observance.
  • Sponsorship of student service-learning projects.

Tree Campus USA, a national program launched in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation, honors colleges and universities and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation.
