GE Appliances, union reach tentative agreement on new contract

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — GE Appliances (GEA), a Haier company, and the IUE-CWA have reached a tentative agreement on a new labor contract. The agreement is now subject to review and ratification by the approximately 4,000 union members who work at Appliance Park. The new contract has enhancements in pay and benefits for employees, as well as additional flexibility in the workplace.

IUE-CWA Local 83761 President Dino Driskell said, “It has been three months, but I think our members will appreciate the time and effort the negotiating committee took to develop a contract that serves their needs. We look forward to our members having the opportunity to vote on this agreement.”

GEA Chief Negotiator for Appliance Park Rob Fritz said, “The union and the company have worked very hard to address key employee topics of wages, work practices and increased flexibility to balance both work and personal life. With this contract, endorsed by Union leadership, we are showing confidence and support for our employees at Appliance Park.”

The IUE-CWA leaders are expected to share the tentative agreement with their members next week. The ratification vote has not yet been scheduled. Ratification of the proposed contract requires a majority of union members vote to accept.
