IRVINE, Ky. — Backers of an economic development project called The Yard hope to use interest in a 40-acre former railroad property to boost tourism.
The Yard will feature a 75-year-old steam locomotive, a rail rehab facility, a machine shop, an interactive museum, a restaurant, and a pavilion, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.
The Estill County project is led by Kentucky Steam, a nonprofit with a goal of restoring historic rail equipment and bolstering economic development in Appalachian Kentucky by the adaptive reuse of the area’s rail infrastructure.
