The Williamsburg-Whitley County Airport Board has signed a 10-year agreement with Sofcoast Inc. that allows the Corbin-based start-up company to use the airport for unmanned aircraft testing. Sofcoast’s lead product is the ASAP (Affordable Stationary Aerial Platform), a portable antenna and communications system that is being manufactured at the company’s satellite location in San Diego, Calif. Sofcoast CEO John Surmont said ASAP would prove particularly useful in disaster areas where radio towers have been incapacitated.
