Lexington Salt Cave provides a new restorative space for health and wellness

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Lexington Salt Cave has opened near downtown Lexington, offering customers the opportunity to experience deep relaxation and restoration along with halotherapy (dry salt therapy) in a simulated pink Himalayan salt cave.

Halotherapy is an ancient, natural therapy that involves exposure to and inhalation of dry, salt-infused air. Salt is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory, and has been shown to alleviate symptoms of many illnesses while improving the wellness of both body and mind. Recent research is also beginning to show that it may potentially suppress the spread of viruses.

Salt-therapy Himalayan salt comes from deep, underground reserves in Pakistan, and contains over 84 trace minerals. During a Lexington Salt Cave session, patrons relax in zero-gravity chairs or lounge on the salt floor, while breathing in microscopic particles of pure, pharmaceutical-grade salt, which are dispersed into the air by a halogenerator. The salt is absorbed deep into the sinuses and lungs, trapping bacteria, allergens and toxins while assisting the body in naturally removing them.

The cave is climate-controlled and ventilated to ensure the correct humidity levels needed to maintain the properties of the anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory salt. There are nearly seven tons of pink Himalayan salt on the walls and floors.

“Healthy breathing and a calm mind are so integral to our health, and along with the respiratory and skin health benefits, the Lexington Salt Cave offers a chance to escape daily stresses and retune your nervous system, potentially offering additional relief from depression, anxiety and sleeplessness,” said owner Lara Levine.
