LEXINGTON, Ky. — Community Action Council for Lexington-Fayette, Bourbon, Harrison, and Nicholas Counties, Inc. announced recently that new officers were elected to oversee the governance of the large nonprofit, anti-poverty organization.
Approaching her second year as board chairperson, Denise Beatty is proud of the accomplishments of the board and Community Action Council as they continue to provide essential service to our communities during the extreme challenges of the pandemic.
“It’s an honor to work alongside a strong board that is committed to the safety and well-being of our most vulnerable neighbors,” Beatty said. “With this Executive Committee, I am confident that the Council is prepared to face the challenges ahead during this juncture in its history.”
Executive Director Sharon Price said, “The Council is fortunate to have such prudent partners on its board of directors, and these newly elected officers are no exception. The specific skills and assets of our Executive Committee members reflect both historical knowledge and the innovative thinking necessary to ensure that our ongoing anti-poverty efforts not only align with our mission but advance it.”
Board members have an overall fiduciary responsibility and quickly pivoted to increase their governance at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic to assist more people as many in the community lost jobs and needed immediate assistance.
Over the last two years, Community Action Council has experienced a substantial 30% increase in Federal emergency funding in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, Community Action Council was one of 23 community action agencies implementing Team Kentucky funds for local food, rental, and utility assistance.
More recently, Community Action Council was selected to directly administer the housing stabilization program on behalf of the Lexington Fayette Urban County Government. This program provides rental and utility assistance for Lexington-Fayette households facing the threat of eviction due to a financial impact caused by the pandemic.
