Centene Corp. to Manage Medicaid for 180,000 Kentuckians

Centene Corp., a St. Louis company that was one of four companies selected earlier this year to manage Medicaid benefits for Kentucky, is in the process of hiring 250 people to help manage the Kentucky Spirit Health Plan.

The Kentucky Spirit Health Plan will be headquartered in Lexington and will provide integrated healthcare services to Medicaid recipients in all regions of the commonwealth. Workers have been busy since mid-July preparing office space in the Chase Building in downtown Lexington for Kentucky Spirit Health Plan

Centene’s contract with Kentucky calls for an initial three-year term, with the potential for four one-year extensions.

The company expects to serve approximately 180,000 members in Kentucky, generating annual revenues in excess of $700 million, according to a news release on its website. Operations under the contract are expected to commence Oct. 1.
