Fortune magazine’s 2008 list of the nation’s 500 largest publicly held companies includes five that are headquartered in Kentucky. The listing ranks companies based on annual revenue.
Louisville-based Humana was once again the highest-ranking Kentucky company on the list, coming in at No. 98 with annual revenues of $25.3 billion. Last year Humana was listed at No. 110.
All five Kentucky companies ranked on the 2008 Fortune 500 – Humana, Yum Brands, Ashland, Omnicare and Lexmark International – were also on last year’s list. Two other Kentucky companies, Highland Heights-based General Cable and Louisville-based Kindred Healthcare, just missed the 2008 list’s cutoff, ranking No. 502 and No. 518, respectively.
