Seven Kentucky Hospitals to Re-brand Under Saint Joseph Name

By wmadministrator

Seven hospitals around the state have joined under the Saint Joseph name and are now officially operating as Saint Joseph Health System.

The hospitals that are part of the new system include Flaget Memorial Hospital, Bardstown; Marymount Medical Center, London; Our Lady of the Way Hospital, Martin; and Saint Joseph HealthCare, Lexington, Berea and Mount Sterling.

As part of creating a common identity, most of the hospitals will adopt the Saint Joseph name with their location, such as Saint Joseph London, Saint Joseph Martin, Saint Joseph Berea and Saint Joseph Mount Sterling. The system’s two hospitals in Lexington will continue to be known as Saint Joseph Hospital and Saint Joseph East.  Flaget Memorial Hospital will continue to operate as Flaget Memorial and will be identified as a member of Saint Joseph Health System.

Combined, the hospitals have 981 licensed beds, approximately 5,000 employees and some 1,300 physicians on staff.

According to Gene Woods, CEO of Saint Joseph Health System, the formation of the system is a growth strategy, not a takeover by Saint Joseph.

“We are all joining together to grow and to build something new that has not existed before,” Woods said. “Ultimately, this new system will bring more services to each of our facilities and broaden the scope of services across our system so that patients should seldom need to go elsewhere for care.”

Saint Joseph Health System is part of Catholic Health Initiatives, a national non-profit health corporation based in Denver.
