LEXINGTON, Ky. — On Sunday, November 27th, at 9 p.m. ET, McBrayer Member Jack Wheat will appear on the History Channel in the series The Toys That Built America in an episode covering the Cabbage Patch Kids craze.
As a law student and young lawyer in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Mr. Wheat provided legal assistance and representation to the late Martha Nelson Thomas, the Kentucky artist who created the soft sculpture “Doll Babies” that preceded Cabbage Patch Kids in an intellectual property suit regarding the provenance of the popular toys.
Earlier this year, Mr. Wheat appeared in Billion Dollar Babies: The True Story of the Cabbage Patch Kids, a documentary that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.
“Martha was a dear friend, and her work still brings joy to many today,” said Mr. Wheat of Thomas, who passed in 2013. “I am grateful for the opportunity to share her story with the world and help her achieve the recognition she deserves.”
Mr. Wheat is the head of the intellectual property practice group at McBrayer PLLC.
