Region Forms Plan to Promote Green Technology

By wmadministrator

The Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation (GO-EDC) and Northwest Kentucky Forward, a regional economic development organization based in Henderson, have formed a new partnership aimed at branding northwest Kentucky as a center of “green” innovation.

The partnership will create the Green Region Innovation Network, with a goal of bringing together higher education, research and development entities and workforce training facilities to help further green technologies in the region.

The partnership is promoting the northwest Kentucky region’s assets in areas such as plant biotechnology and alternative energy. As home to the Kentucky Bioprocessing Plant, Owensboro is becoming a center of plant-made pharmaceutical and plant biotechnology through its unique collaborations in bioprocessing, cancer research, and agricultural production.

The partnership is also highlighting the region’s abundance of coal, which positions it to play a prominent role in the state’s alternative energy efforts. Peabody Energy recently announced that it will build a $3 billion coal-to-gas facility on a yet-to-be-determined site in northwestern Kentucky.
