John S. and James L. Knight Foundation issues one-day nonprofit GoodGiving Guide Challenge

Potential for nonprofits to yield $90,000

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 14, 2012) — The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation is offering a 12-hour challenge to the 68 central Kentucky nonprofits participating in the GoodGiving Guide Challenge. The Knight $30,000 Match Challenge will be Monday, Dec. 17, from noon to midnight, or until the matching money runs out.

During that 12-hour period, individual donations from $10 to $1,000 are eligible for a 50 cent match on every dollar donated until the $30,000 match pool is exhausted. This means a donor making a $50 contribution will earn a $25 Knight match, which equals $75 for the nonprofit. The $30,000 challenge will incentivize another $60,000 in local giving, yielding $90,000 unrestricted, general operating dollars for local nonprofits.

Eligible donor contributions cannot exceed $1,000 per nonprofit. All qualifying gifts must be made through www.goodgivingguide.net.

This matching grant opportunity is made possible through the generosity of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation of Miami, Fla., which has a long history of partnering on community projects with Blue Grass Community Foundation.

Blue Grass Community Foundation is a tax-exempt nonprofit that enables individuals, families, businesses and other nonprofit organizations to establish permanent charitable funds to meet current and future community needs. It is overseen by a volunteer board of community leaders and run by professionals who are experts in local philanthropy.
