2024 Pegasus Pin celebrates Derby 150

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky Derby Festival wants the community to “Pin the Town Derby” next spring! The Derby Festival is releasing its 2024 Pegasus Pin design this week as part of the countdown to the 150th Kentucky Derby. The Festival collaborated with Churchill Downs on the special pin design, which celebrates the historic run for the horse race. The pin features the Festival’s Pegasus symbol and official teal color along with the number “150th” in red, a signature color of the Kentucky Derby.

“The Kentucky Derby Festival is a monthlong celebration and nearly 70-year-old tradition that started because of the Kentucky Derby. We are honored to partner with Churchill Downs in creating a Pegasus Pin that marks this milestone and will be a one-of-a-kind collector’s piece for our community and our guests,” said Matt Gibson, Kentucky Derby Festival President and CEO. “We hope everyone will “Pin the Town Derby” and wear a Pegasus Pin in the spring to celebrate the historic time in our city.”

The 2024 Pin also complements the design of the 1974 Pegasus Pin that honored the 100th Kentucky Derby.

“The Kentucky Derby Festival is an important part of how our community celebrates the Kentucky Derby season each year. We were thrilled that KDF honored the 150th Run for the Roses with a Pegasus Pin design that reflects this milestone,” said Casey Ramage, VP of Marketing & Partnerships at Churchill Downs Racetrack. “Churchill Downs was proud to collaborate on this design that harkens to the Pegasus Pin of 1974 for the 100th Kentucky Derby and incorporates the signature colors from both the Festival and the Kentucky Derby.”

2024 marks the 52nd edition of the Pegasus Pin. Festival fans can pre-order their plastic 2024 Pegasus Pins beginning Dec. 6 at PegasusPins.com. The pins will be available at retail locations beginning in March 2024.

The Kentucky Derby Festival is joining the Kentucky Derby Museum at their “Race to 150” event on Dec. 6 to countdown to Derby 150. The first 150 guests to the museum will receive a commemorative Metal Festival Pin. For the first time, collector Pins from past years will also be available for purchase at the Derby Museum Gift Shop. More details on the event can be found at DerbyMuseum.org.
