Australian Company to Locate its First U.S. Plant in KY

By wmadministrator

An Australian company that specializes in the production of tactical nylon equipment is investing more than $2.1 million to locate its first U.S. manufacturing, warehousing and distribution operation in Franklin County.

SORD KY (Special Operations Research and Development) will manufacture tactical nylon products such as backpacks, load-bearing garments, pouches, belts and other military accessories.

The company has leased a 15,000-s.f. facility and expects to begin production in September. The plant will employ 81 people with an average wage of $17.62, including benefits.

Earlier this year, the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority approved SORD for tax incentives up to $1.8 million through the Kentucky Business Investment program. The performance-based incentives will allow SORD to keep a portion of its investment over an eight-year period through corporate income tax credits and wage assessments by meeting job and investment targets.
