Overhaul of Pike County public buildings projected to save $1.3 million

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (March 29, 2013) — After being granted a contract from the Pike County Fiscal Court in late 2012 to increase the energy efficiency of the county courthouse and other county buildings, Perfection Group has started to work on the projects, which are expected to produce annual cost savings of more than $80,000 when complete.

Buildings slated to receive energy improvements include the Pikeville courthouse, the Belfry and Phelps branch courthouses, the county garage, the Hall of Justice, the animal shelter and the Phelps Intergenerational Center. The 15-year energy efficiency proposal submitted by Perfection Group estimates that the entire project will produce energy savings amounting to $1.3 million.

Pike County Maintenance Engineer Terry Rogers said the project includes both large and small energy saving measures.

“This project is everything from basic lighting controls to sophisticated cogeneration plants at all three county courthouses,” Rogers said. “The same measures are being taken at county fire departments, senior centers and community centers.”
