Keeneland opens 2012 auction season on Monday With January Horses of All Ages Sale

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 5, 2012) – Keeneland will kick off the 2012 sale year on Monday with its January Horses of All Ages Sale.

A total of 1,594 lots have been cataloged for the four-day auction, to be held Jan. 9-12. Sessions begin daily at 10 a.m.

The January Sale has earned a global reputation for offering an exciting selection of stakes-winning fillies and broodmares in foal to many of the world’s most fashionable stallions.

Broodmares covered by 186 different stallions, among them leading sires Arch, Awesome Again, Bernardini, Blame, Candy Ride (ARG), Colonel John, Congrats, Curlin, Elusive Quality, Eskendereya, Ghostzapper, Giant’s Causeway, Hard Spun, Harlan’s Holiday, Henrythenavigator, Indian Charlie, Invincible Spirit, Lemon Drop Kid, Lookin At Lucky, Medaglia d’Oro, More Than Ready, Pulpit, Quality Road, Raven’s Pass, Scat Daddy, Smart Strike, Speightstown, Stormy Atlantic, Street Cry (IRE), Street Sense, Summer Bird, Super Saver, Tapit, Tiznow, Unbridled’s Song, War Front, Warrior’s Reward and Zensational, have been consigned.

Additionally, the sale also is regarded as a strong market for ‘short’ yearlings (weanlings who officially became a year old on January 1). Among the recent graded stakes winners sold as yearlings in January are Grade 1 winners Smiling Tiger (Triple Bend Handicap, Ancient Title and Bing Crosby Stakes), Afleet Express (Travers Stakes) and E Z’s Gentleman (Triple Bend Handicap); and Grade 2 winners Flashpoint (Hutcheson Stakes), Joyful Victory (Fantasy Stakes), Meeznah (DFS Park Hill Stakes), No Advantage (General George Handicap) and Dancinginherdreams (Pocahontas Stakes).

This January, yearlings representing 176 stallions will be offered, including top sires Arch, Awesome Again, Bernardini, Broken Vow, Candy Ride (ARG), Colonel John, Curlin, Duke of Marmalade (IRE), Elusive Quality, Giant’s Causeway, Hard Spun, Harlan’s Holiday, Henrythenavigator, Indian Charlie, Kitten’s Joy, Malibu Moon, More Than Ready, Mr. Greeley, Pulpit, Scat Daddy, Smart Strike, Speightstown, Street Cry (IRE), Street Sense, Tapit, Tiznow, Unbridled’s Song and Zensational.
