Whitaker Bank Picks Off Naming Rights for Baseball Park

The Lexington Legends will kick off their 2011 season at Whitaker Bank Ballpark on April 7 against the Charleston RiverDogs

Lexington-based Whitaker Bank Corp. has been announced as the new stadium naming rights partner of the Lexington Legends, a minor league baseball team of the South Atlantic League and the Class A affiliate of the Houston Astros.
Negotiations with Whitaker Bank began in late 2010, as the contract with the previous naming rights sponsor, Thomas & King/Applebee’s, expired after 10 years.

The stadium, previously known as Applebee’s Park, has now been renamed Whitaker Bank Ballpark. The contract with Whitaker goes through 2020, with the option for renewal.

“The opportunity to be the naming rights sponsor for the Legends was one that we could not pass up,” said Elmer K. Whitaker, CEO of Whitaker Bank.  “The Legends have had a lot of success with baseball as well as the many different events they host each year.  We are always looking for ways to be more involved in the community and to enrich the lives of our customers – becoming the naming rights sponsor for the ballpark was the perfect way to achieve this.”
