Economic officials from Poland to visit Louisville regarding innovation, health sciences and technology

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Jan. 6, 2012) — A group of economic development officials from Poland will visit with Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer, UofL President James Ramsey, Nucleus CEO Vickie Yates Brown and other local officials Jan. 9-11 to see how Louisville is leveraging innovation, health sciences and technology for economic development. The Polish officials are involved in the development of an innovation and research complex, Wroclaw Research Centre EIT + Ltd., in their home country.

A Memorandum of Understanding that outlines a partnership between the representatives of the Polish research park, UofL and Nucleus is expected to be signed at noon, Jan. 9, prior to a luncheon at the Nucleus Innovation Park at Jefferson Street (formerly the MedCenter 3 building), 201 E. Jefferson St., first floor.

In addition to the luncheon, the group will also tour the Cardiovascular Innovation Institute and Clinical and Translational Research Building on Jan. 9. On Tuesday, Jan. 10, they will tour some of the labs on the Belknap and Shelby Campuses.

The visitors include the president of the Polish research center, Miroslaw Miller, and his colleagues, Magdalena Ornatowska, director of Life Science Department, and Katarzyna Swinarska, director of Project Management Office.

Nucleus, a UofL Foundation initiative, is working to strengthen research and economic development in the region by attracting and creating new businesses in the life sciences and other areas.
